SPEED WORLD CUP TRENTO 2008

SPEED CLIMBING – The climbing “spider-men”

The Speed is an issue still not very widespread and appreciated, but with a "gold" future, bound to be included between the olympic sports.

The athletes climb on not very hard routes (6b), but with unbelievable speed..
Competitions take place on walls with height between 12 to 20 m, with light overhang. The routes need to be same lenght, side view and difficulty for all the competition's stages.
The athletes climb with top-rope, their target is to get the top as soon as possible.
Competitions are split into two main stages: qualification round and final (split in male and female). By the way, final are split in quarters, semifinal and final (depends on the number of the competitors).
All the athletes are clocked.
Each competitor needs two belayers (!), who take care of the rope.

At the competition of trento last year winners were Anatoly Skripov (RUS) (men) and Rosmery Da Silva (VEN) (women).
